Mayor Byron Nolen makes a historic announcement with selection for Inkster’s police chief"DSC_0577"

Mayor Nolen announced Tamika L. Jenkins as his appointment for police chief for the Inkster Police Department. Jenkins, who has served as Inkster’s chief of police since January 5, 2025, is the first Black woman to hold the position in the city’s history. Chief Jenkins began her law enforcement journey as a patrol officer for the Pontiac Police Department, before joining the Inkster Police Department as a Police Officer in 2007.

Chief Tamika L. Jenkins has provided a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to community-oriented policing. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for building trust between law enforcement and the community she serves. In her role as Deputy Chief, she implemented innovative community policing, helped to reduce crime rates and earned the department accolades for proactive community-centered approach.

“Chief Jenkin’s proven leadership and community engagement make her the ideal candidate to lead our police department,” said Mayor Nolen. “We are confident that under her guidance, Inkster that she will do everything within her power to ensure a safety within our community.”

Her vision for a safer, more connected community sets the stage for a new era of effective and compassionate law enforcement in the city. She leads with transparency, accountability and integrity, values that residents of the city deserve.
