[ARCHIVED] DTE Storm Restoration Update

5f3ab844b3c1f

Storm restoration update:

  • As of 7:00 a.m. Friday, September 2nd, nearly 212,000 customers have been restored of the 265,000 DTE Energy customers who were impacted by the severe weather that swept through southeast Michigan Monday evening.
  • We expect that 95% of impacted customers will be restored by the end of the day Friday.
  • The severe weather led to more than 3,300 downed power lines. Our priority Tuesday priority was securing downed lines to help ensure the safety of our customers and communities. Today the focus will be on restoring power to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
  • More than 1,000 linemen will continue to work in the field with additional support from more than 1,000 out-of-state linemen to help our Storm Response Team make repairs as quickly and safely as possible. The out-of-state crews arrived Tuesday from as far away as Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
  • Our crews respond to the most dangerous situations first, such as downed power lines, and then will prioritize restoring health and safety facilities like hospitals and police stations.

Safety: CRITICAL MESSAGE

  • Please continue to share our critical safety messages with your community.
  • We continue to make progress securing downed lines but, there may still be more not immediately visible.
  • Please use your channels to urge residents to STAY AWAY from downed lines. These lines can be hidden by debris on the ground.
  • Some schools are back in session, and children are walking around neighborhoods. We are securing downed power lines as quickly as possible.
  • Stay one bus length (or at least 20 feet) away from all power lines. Report downed lines through dteenergy.com, our mobile app or call 911.

Safety Tips:

Safety for the community is always our top priority. Please follow these critical guidelines to stay safe:

  • Downed power lines may be hidden by debris, so be sure you and your loved ones watch for these hazards. Stay at least a bus length (20 feet) away from downed power lines and don’t touch anything they may be in contact with such as fences – always consider them live and dangerous.
  • Never drive across a downed power line. If a power line falls on your vehicle, call 911 and remain inside until help arrives.
  • Do not cross yellow caution tape, which indicates there is a downed power line in the area.
  • Never use a portable generator inside a home or business. It emits carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. Keep it outside, away from windows and doors, so the fumes won’t come in.
  • Stay out of flooded or damp basements or other areas if water is in contact with outlets or any electrically operated appliance. The water or moisture may serve as a conductor of electricity, causing serious or even fatal injury.

Customer Outage or Hazard Reporting:

We encourage customers to report a power outage or downed line to DTE immediately through the DTE app or website.
