In a touching ceremony, the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) 4th District and American Legion 2nd District honored (first Nolen), a Vietnam War veteran and Mayor Nolen’s father. The heartfelt tribute recognized individual service and highlighted the broader mission of supporting veterans and their families within the Inkster community.
Mayor Nolen accepted two veteran lapel pins on behalf of his father:
The 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Pin acknowledges the bravery of those who served during the Vietnam War era - November 1955 to May 1975. The pin serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans, many of whom have faced profound challenges during and after their service.
The Blue Star Family Pin, honors the service and sacrifice of military families. The recognition is crucial, as it underscores the often-overlooked contributions of family members who support their loved ones throughout military life.
During the ceremony, representatives from the VFW and American Legion spoke of the importance of reinstating an American Legion post in Inkster. They highlighted the variety of programs and benefits that the American Legion and VFW offers, including scholarships, oratorical contests, and various support services designed to assist veterans as they transition back to civilian life. Inkster residents, particularly veterans and their families, were encouraged to engage with the American Legion in order to access valuable resources and support, while also fostering a sense of community among those who have served.
If you’re a veteran or a family member in Inkster, consider getting involved with the American Legion. Together, we can create a vibrant network that honors our past and supports our heroes today. Your participation can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms.
