RESOLVED that the regular City Council meeting dates for the December 2026 calendar year through December 2026 scheduled for 7:00 p.m., on the first and third Monday of each month (As stipulated in the City of Inkster Charter) in the Council Chambers located at 26215 Trowbridge, Inkster, Michigan, are hereby established under the Open Meetings Act, being MCL 15.261, et, Seq. In contrast, these meetings are conducted and open to the public as follows:

The legislative body of Inkster is the City Council, which plays a crucial role in the local government structure and is tasked with several essential responsibilities that significantly impact the community's governance and development. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Approval of the Annual City Budget: The City Council meticulously reviews and approves the annual budget, a critical process that determines how public funds are allocated across various departments and services within the city, ensuring that resources are directed toward the community’s most pressing needs.

  2. Authorization of Fund Borrowing Through Bonds: In order to finance large projects or manage cash flow, the City Council has the authority to approve the issuance of bonds. This decision enables the city to secure necessary funding for infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, and other vital initiatives that support the welfare of residents.

  3. Approval of City Expenditures: The City Council is responsible for overseeing and approving expenditures within the city, ensuring that taxpayer money is spent wisely and in accordance with the established budget, thereby promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency in financial dealings.

  4. Enactment of City Ordinances: The Council plays a key role in enacting ordinances that govern various aspects of city life, from zoning regulations to public health measures, thus shaping the legal framework that residents must adhere to and enhancing the overall quality of life in Inkster.

  5. Modification of the City Charter: The City Council has the authority to propose and approve modifications to the City Charter, which serves as the foundational document outlining the organization and governance of the city, ensuring that it remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

City of Inkster – Terms and Elected Offices

The government of the City of Inkster shall be a Council/Mayor form of government.  The elected offices of the City of Inkster are the Mayor and the six members of the City Council, who are elected at large in the November general election.  The term of office for every elected officer is four years and commences on the Monday following certification of the City general election. (City Charter 4.3)
